Fashion tips I've learned since I started YouTube!

I have always been interested in fashion, sure I have a background in fashion retail management, but I always felt excluded from the fashion world due to my size.

I have always tried to dress nice, but it was born from a desire to hide my size rather than me wanting to be fashionable. Well fast forward 25 years and I am now a plus size fashion stylist and youtuber! I still cant quite believe it myself and I'm going to be honest and tell you I still cringe a bit when people ask what I do for a living. YouTube is a young persons game isn't it?? (the answer is no, YouTube is for everyone but that can be a post for another day lol) Since starting my channel I have however really dived into the world of how to look more fashionable and most importantly, how to be more elegant and stylish. In this post, I thought I'd share a few fashion tips and trick that I have learned along the way.

  1. Quality over Quantity Having never been able to get my hands on much clothes in plus size, once I found affordable online shopping it opened the doors to a new life. I bought everything I could fit yet never wore most of it because I wasn't confident enough to wear it. Slowly I did find my confidence however I also started to really see the quality of the items I had acquired.. and many pieces just wasn't the quality I want. As time has passed I can see the amount of money I have wasted by buying cheap simply because I could. Hey there is nothing wrong with a good bargain, but make sure that when you shop, no matter the price, that the item has a lasting quality so you can enjoy it for a long time to come.

  2. Shop the Best you can Afford Online shopping has really opened the doors to all things being available, when we want. Nothing is easier than sitting chilling after a long day with a bit of scrolling and oh'ohhh, something fell in our basket. Fashion is no exception but online shopping has their pitfalls. Its never been easier to spend more than we intend and often more than we can afford. So yes, absolutely buy the best quality you can, but don't ever feel you have to spend more than you can afford. Plenty of budget friendly stores where you can get the "designer" look without breaking the bank.

  3. Know your style before you shop Before you hit the shops, know what you like and what your personal style is. This really ties in with what I said in point no 1. If you don't know your style and what you like, you will end up buying a whole load that you wont really wear. So figure out your style before you hit the shops. If you are lost when it comes to your style, the easiest way to find it, is to find a celebrity who's style you admire, and try to copy it. Find some pictures on Pinterest that inspires you and then simply try to make those outfits. Slowly you will find what you love and you will soon align your wardrobe with the style you want to achieve. I created a video a while back on tips to always look stylish that may help you. Watch it HERE.

  4. Play with trends but be selective We all want to look up to date and fashionable. Trends are a fun way to inject something new into our wardrobe BUT the downside here is that trends come and go. Investing hundreds of your hard earned coins on a trend may seem fun and like real luxury, but if in 6 months the trend is out of fashion, then what? Play with trends for sure. But be selective and maybe buy cheaper options so when the trend is over, it hasn't broken your bank.

  5. Capsules are GOLD but you can still have fun with fashion You may know that I am a huge lover of capsule wardrobes. Many people are but many are also scared of them thinking that they are boring and unfashionable. This however is not the case. Capsules are a great foundation to your wardrobe and fully take the hardship out of getting dressed. If you have a basic capsule, 12-15 pieces, you have the perfect foundation for all other pieces to work with. You can add as you go along, mix and match the trends with the capsule without ever getting lost in your wardrobe. A capsule is, as I said, simply the foundation for you to build your wardrobe around and its up to you how big or how small you want your wardrobe to be. I created a video about how to plan a basic capsule wardrobe which may be of help to you. You can watch it HERE.

  6. Know that your body will change all the time No one can stop or even hold back time. No matter the amount of money we have available, time waits for no one and our bodies will change. Our weight will also change. Up or down, it doesn't matter in the bigger picture, but know that no matter what, your weight WILL change, because WE change! We live in a world where looks = success. Money can buy a new body or a new face. We are so used to filters that can smooth us out and change the body we are in that we get shocked when we see skin texture and stretch marks, never mind a few extra pounds.. and they are now so advanced that you cant tell anymore. Its scary and so unrealistic. Reality however is that we all have skin texture (even the Kardashians), we all have a few extra pounds or acne or stretch marks or whatever.. Its natural and its absolutely perfect!

Those are my best tips I have learned through having my YOUTUBE CHANNEL. Many helpful videos over there so feel free to jump over if interested. I hope this was of interest for you but that is all for today. Let me know if you found any of these tips helpful and feel free to add your tips in the comments. Thank you for stopping by
