Its MY business, NO one else's! - another lil rant

I have spent years standing in front of the mirror crying because I felt fat and unworthy.

I have destroyed my mental health by dieting trying to fit into a smaller size.

I have destroyed my body with over exercising and not looking after myself physically or mentally.

Never did I, or anyone else, stop and ask me why I had a problem with food in the first place.

Never did I, or anyone else, stop and ask me why i had such a bad relationship with exercise.

Nope! No matter who I spoke too.. and to this day… my weight was and is brought up in conversations. Unprompted, uninvited..

Most of the time these days its comments on my videos or on my social media platforms. Sitting behind a phone or a keyboard seem to let some people think they can say what they want.

It may be meant as a compliment when someone says "You look amazing, you must have lost weight" but I’m sad to say, it is NEVER taken as one! It hurts!

I was 40 years old before I started my journey to try and love myself!

I was done crying and I am totally and utterly done just being my weight!

My weight is NEVER the subject! Unless I bring it up or my doctor has any concerns (which he doesn’t) it’s not anyone’s business!

Please read this and take it as a request.. not just to me but to anyone you may speak too.. please don’t bring up anyone’s weight. Don’t mention weight, don’t mention size, weight loss, weight gain, diets or anything related to this subject.

It’s NEVER a compliment that you tell someone they must have lost weight as they look amazing! NEVER!!!

When you say something like that, you are simply reminding the person that all you see is their weight! Try instead to see people for who they are. You love someone’s outfit? Great, tell them “wow I love your outfit”. You love how someone is glowing (maybe they have lost weight and good for them) simply tell them “wow you are glowing, you look amazing”.

The focus on someone’s weight destroys mental health.

Every time we get a "complement" that is weight related, we add another little stone in to already very heavy mental rucksack. Another little chip of the shoulder. We smile and say "ahh thank you" but inside we are crying and wondering why we are nothing but our weight to other people. We already worry about our weight. We already know we need to eat healthy and exercise (and many of us already do). What we don't need is for anyone to remind of of what we already think. That we aren't good enough or that we aren't healthy enough.

Size isn’t a subject matter! Its not something anyone ever need to point out to anyone else.

My girlfriends taught me a saying they use with their children.. “if someone can’t change something in 5seconds, we don’t mention it”. I love that and it’s perfect.

Live by that.

I’m sorry for the long rant but this is a subject close to my heart. I have thick skin and I knew what I signed up for but I too am human and don’t need to be told to loose weight or to exercise. That’s my business.

I am here to show those who want to see and learn, how to love ourselves as we are TODAY! Not when we have lost 20lbs!

I can teach you how to make the most of your curves and learn to love you for you.

This place is about positivity. It’s a place of learning and allowing ourselves to accept ourselves as we are today! Not tomorrow not when we have lost weight! No, today!

Love yourself girls and know you are worthy just the way you are

And to anyone who this doesn’t align with, thank you for stopping by. Please refrain from commenting unless you have something positive and non weight-related to say. Marleen x

Thank you Marlene for speaking my thoughts. The world needs this as a public service announcement!

You are delightful and lovely, and I have learned so much from you.

My one request is for you or your followers to make suggestions for stores that carry clothes made of natural materials ( cotton, wool, linen) rather than polyester or polyester blends. In addition to stores that cater to plus sizes mostly offering baggy, shapeless styles, they are almost exclusively made of polyester or other cheap looking/ feeling material.

A well styled outfit would look so much more classy if made with quality fabrics.

Thank you and its my pleasure. As for suggesting stores, I'm afraid its where I steer clear. I live VERY rural with very few shop so depend on online. Also I live in Ireland and most of you who follow me are from the UK or US. Shopping from the UK is sometimes possible but not all companies ship to here, never mind it being affordable and as for shipping from the US.. I simply cant afford it. The same goes for boutiques. Often way out of my budget. This is why I focus mainly on Shein (I can play with fashion, try out new styles for us, without the heavy price tag) and H&M (they carry good quality affordable and its…

Marleen, you nailed it. When someone pairs "You look great!" with "Have you lost weight?", the implication is you did not look great before (heavier). I am a US (Michigan) size 14. I have always been overweight and I say that honestly as I weighed over 9 pounds at birth. LOL. Anyway, I watch a lot of fashion -related and stylist channels and yours is by far my favorite. Girl, you are GOOD at what you do!!! You know and live your stuff. Right now my daily wardrobe consists of scrubs and barn clothes, but thanks to you, I am wardrobe ready for retirement in less than 2 years! I intend to be stylish every d…
